Visegrad Fund
Museum Folkwang, Essen

In June of 2023, Dávid Fehér from the KEMKI research team, embarked on a study trip to Essen, to the Museum Folkwang, as part of the Resonances project.

In the archives of the institution he examined documents related to art in Hungary and Eastern Europe. He could gain valuable information about several collaboration between Museum Folkwang and Hungarian artists and institutions. He studied the documents Museum Folkwang's 1968 exhibition Ungarische Kunst der Gegenwart and the realisation of the programme of the related film week, as well as the cooperation between the Institute of Cultural Relations and the Museum Folkwang. The museum’s archive also preserves documentation of the residency program organized at the Museum Folkwang Essen's guest house in Werden, in which Imre Bak, György Jovánovics, László Lakner, István Nádler, as well as other Eastern European artists could participate.

The results of this trip could form an important part of the future work of our group and can lead to a deeper understanding of cultural transfers between Central and Eastern Europe.
